What’s the Point of a Secondary Logo?

What’s the point of a secondary logo? Do you really need more than one logo? 🤨 Let’s find out:

SO WE ALL KNOW WHAT A LOGO IS, BUT WHAT’S A SECONDARY LOGO?

What you think of as “a logo” in most instances is the primary logo. As its name states, it’s the first version of your logo. The secondary logo is the second version.

WHY HAVE A SECOND VERSION OF YOUR LOGO?

There are many reasons, but the big one is to have a diverse branding system that works whenever & wherever (cue my fav Shakira song ).

MORE SPECIFIC REASONS:

  1. To have a rearranged version of your logo, so it fits in a variety of environments

  2. To display multiple brand elements together, like a primary logo combined with a mark

  3. To have a type-only version of your logo, perfect for professional documents

A great example is the primary + secondary logos I created for Tiny Leaps, Big Changes. In this case, the secondary logo is a rearranged version of the first. On the podcast cover, the secondary logo works better because its composition allows it to be bigger, and therefore more readable + attention-grabbing.
